Patrick Medley Morton

Patrick Medley Morton, 73, passed away on Sunday, October 12, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 17, 1952, to the late Claude Porter and Theresa Medley Morton. Patrick graduated from Owensboro High School in 1971 and was a lifetime member of St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Patrick's career journey began in life insurance before he transitioned to a fulfilling role at Longfellow Adult Learning Center, where he taught and assisted individuals in securing employment. He continued to make a significant impact as an employment specialist for the state in dual education. His career culminated at Daymar College, where he worked diligently until the institution's closure. Most recently, he found joy in his work at Kroger, connecting with the community he loved.

Patrick earned a master’s degree in public administration from Western Kentucky University, showcasing his commitment to education and personal growth. He served in the Air Force for six years and was stationed in Nevada and then England. His military service instilled in him a pride that resonated throughout his life.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Patrick was known for his sharp sense of style. He took pride in his appearance, often seen in starched and pressed clothing and sporting his favorite ball caps. In his earlier years, he could be found in cowboy boots and a belt buckle, telling 'captivating' stories to his three girls that left a lasting impression.

Patrick's hobbies reflected his love for the outdoors and hard work. He derived satisfaction from mowing the grass, tending to a beautiful garden filled with flowers and vegetables, and in his earlier days, enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was particularly fond of showing dogs and horses, specifically Springer Spaniels and quarter horses. A dedicated son, Patrick devoted a substantial part of his life caring for his parents, embodying the values of respect and family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Christy Mattingly (Joe Allen), Amy Lindblom (Jon), and Sarah Ladwig (Mark); siblings, Nell Kelly (Jim), Claude "Bub" Morton, and Nick Morton (Jean); grandchildren, Emily Mattingly, Jude Mattingly, Autumn Brown (Sarah), Lucas Lindblom, Jacob Ladwig, and Abby Ladwig, his longtime companion, Elaine Stephen Grant; the mother of his three children, Rosemary Sims O'Brien; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The funeral service for Patrick will be 2 PM Saturday, November 1st, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
