Patrick Henry Berry, 82, of Owensboro, died August 27, 2009 following a lengthy illness. A fourth generation Daviess Countian and youngest child of the late Samuel Richard Berry and Mary Eva (Burns) Berry, he spent his childhood in the Stanley area, graduated from St. Francis Academy, attended St. Joseph's College, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired after 42 years of service as an engineering manager with Bell South.
He cared deeply about community service. His volunteer work included service to the Telephone Pioneers, Owensboro Science and History Museum, Kiwanis and Rotary, Christmas Wish, Toastmasters, and Southern Little League. He also refereed high school basketball.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Best) Berry, sons Phil Berry (Pam) of Louisville and Rodney Berry (Joanne) of Owensboro, and grandchildren Brooke Middleton (Dan) of Tampa, Ben Berry (Laura) of Atlanta, Joseph Berry of Owensboro, and Adam Berry of New York City.
He is also survived by a sister, Johnnie Mae Berry of Washington, DC and many nieces and nephews. Siblings Samuel Richard Berry, Jr., Jean Cannon, and Mary Margaret Kulka preceded him in death.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM, and Monday August 31, 2009 from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where services will be held immediately following the Monday visitation. Burial at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
