Parvin Douglas Gillim

Dr. Parvin Douglas Gillim Jr. of Zionsville, Indiana (formerly of Owensboro) died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the St. Vincents Hospice in Indianapolis. Born April 12, 1929 to late the Dr. Parvin Douglas Gillim, Sr. and Marion Hamilton (Reid) Gillim of Owensboro, Kentucky, Dr. Gillim was a prominent Indianapolis Ophthalmologist specializing in surgery and diseases of the retina. During his practice, he was a pioneer in the use of lasers to treat retinal detachments and was on the surgery staff at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. He retired from practice in 1990. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Douglas Gillim and Dr. Marion Hamilton Gillim.

After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1951, Dr. Gillim pursued his medical
education at George Washington University graduating in 1955. He was drafted into the Army, served at the Sacramento Signal Depot, and honorably discharged at the rank of Captain in 1958.

Dr. Gillim, is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Dickson (Varian) Gillim; his children, Mary A. Sefranka, Dr. Sarah E. Gillim, Parvin D. Gillim III (Susan), Alice E. Luker (Dave), Claire V. Gale (Tim), and Anna M. Markus (Chris); 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Services are 12 noon Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Sowards officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors rendered by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be after 11 A.M. at the funeral home.
