Osben H. Shorty Swihart, 82, of Masonville, passed from this life to a better life with Jesus on Friday, June 23, 2006 at his home. He was born on Sept. 17, 1923 in Kingsley, Iowa to the late Bill & Ruth Parker Swihart. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church and the Mens Bible Class. He was a Ky. Colonel, a member of the A.A.R.P., a life member of the National Rifle Assoc., the American Legion, and had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was wounded in the Aleutian Islands and spent seven months in the San Diego Naval Hospital. He was retired as a maintenance supervisor with Glenmore Distillary after 40 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Beechmont High School in Hawesville. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jo Swihart in 1956, a stepdaughter, Susan Brown in 1937, and a sister, Lois Peveler.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Audrey Lewellen Swihart, a son and his wife, Barry & Janna Swihart of Lexington, a stepson, James W. Brown of Owensboro, a sister, Mildred Jane Cecil of Owensboro, two granddaughters, Julee & Ashlyn Swihart of Lexington, a stepgrandson, James D. Brown of Gainesville, Fla., a great grandson, Eric Brown of Owensboro, and several nieces & nephews.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 27 at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Shouse officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday, 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, and after 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
