Orville Gene Gray

Orville Gene Gray, Jr., 81, of Buford, died on Wednesday, November 20 in Corbin, Kentucky. He was born in Daviess County to the late Orville and Bessie Jane Gray.
Gene was employed for 38 years at the original Cox Paper Company. In 1988, he and his wife formed Gray Packaging Company, which they operated until retirement in 1996.
Ordained as a Deacon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Ohio County, he was later elected to serve in that capacity at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He and Joyce are currently members of Sugar Grove Baptist Church in Masonville.
Gene and Joyce have supported many ministries of their church, The Baptist Association and the Kentucky Baptist and Southern Baptist Conventions, including the Kentucky Baptist Home for Children. They have supported many missionaries and mission activities. They have faithfully served their church and community through nursing home and hospital visitation. Gene was also a member of the Owensboro Masonic Lodge #130 for 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, farming and spending time with family.
He was also preceded in death by his brother James C. Gray in 1994.
Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Marie Gray; a daughter, Deborah Ann McDaniel (Tim) of Buford; sons, Terry G. Gray (Susan) of Austin, TX and Larry Wayne Gray (Mary Ida) of Corbin; grandchildren, Talia McDaniel Pace (Mark) of Owensboro, Bradley McDaniel (Missy) of Centertown, Jennifer Gray Shafer (Brad) of Austin, TX, Kimberly Gray Helmuth (John) of Lexington, Heather Gray Campbell (Chris) of Georgetown, Patrick Wallace (Becky) of Walton, James Wallace (Rebecca) of Lexington and Allen Wallace of Lexington; twenty three great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 23 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. Alan Shouse will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-8:00 PM and on Saturday after 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Gideons Bible Society or CareNet Pregnancy Center of Owensboro.
