Orie Lee Kelm

Orie Lee Kelm, Jr., 89, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on May 11, 1924 in Jefferson Co., KY to the late Orie Lee Kelm, Sr. and Gladys Powers Kelm. Mr. Kelm was retired as a Certified Public Accountant for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management in Denver, CO. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Liberty College in Wheeling, W. VA, and his M.B.A. from the University of Louisville.

Mr. Kelm had many interests and hobbies which included becoming a pilot and flying, scuba diving, carpentry, drafting, and was a Radio Control Model Airplane enthusiast. He also loved electronics and working with computers, and was quite a musician playing all the reed instruments. He was very family oriented and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Katherine Kelm in February of 2007 and a grandson, Edward Abram Ward in December of 2010.

Surviving are his sister, Mary Alice Kelm of Owensboro, a son, John Kelm and wife Beth of New Castle, PA, three daughters, Nancy Ehlke and husband Richard of Annandale, VA, Jane Rodgers and husband Ed of Merced, CA, and Lee Anne Zajicek and husband Rich of Ridgecrest, CA, seven grandchildren, Dan Ehlke, Jessica Thornhill, Rose Zajicek, John David Ward, Daisy Zajicek, William Zajicek, and Lauren Zajicek, and four great grandchildren, Edward David Ward, Evan Ward, Annabel Ward, and Eli Thornhill.

Interment and military honors will be held in late Spring in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
