Opal Marie Berry

Opal Marie Berry, 87, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her home. She was born in Ozark, Arkansas to the late Sam and Bert Petty.

Opal was a loving and dedicated homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, working crossword puzzles and most of all spending time with family. She joined Friendship Baptist Church in 1962. While there she was a member of WMU and volunteered in other capacities, including teaching Sunday School.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dixie Claud Berry in 1992 and brothers, Cleo and James Petty.

She is survived by children, Sheila Bratcher of Lewisport, KY, David Berry (Beckie) of Louisville, KY, Donald Berry (Sally) of Mobile, AL, Beverly Phillips (John) of Hartford, KY and Jeff Berry (Elaine) of Philpot, KY; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Jack Petty (Peggy), a sister, Sammie Bevil (Buddy), both of Blytheville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Thursday, January 9 at Friendship Baptist Church. Rev. Brian Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends may also visit at church on Thursday after 9 AM.
