Odessa Mae Powers Lane

Odessa Mae Powers Lane, 88, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Harborside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born May 4, 1920 in Hancock County, she was the daughter of the late Josh and Myrtle Harris Powers; retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital where she worked for 20 years; and was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. In March 1939, Mrs. Lane married her late husband William "Bill" Lane with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She enjoyed reading, gardening and watching NASCAR. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Lane in 1984, a grandson, James Ashley Browning in 2000, and a great-grandson, Robert Dale Yonts in 1999.

She is survived by sons, Sam (Sonja) Lane of Owensboro and Joe (Tammy) Lane of Utica; daughters, Anna Lee Dockery and Mary Leona Wathen of Owensboro, Dorothy (Earl) Cotton of Stanley, and Margaret (James) Browning of Bremen; 23 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Omegene Powell and Betty McGrew of Owensboro, Jane Byrne of Curdsville, Bertha Ralph of Utica, Evelyn Marquis of Macedonia, IL, and Nancy Camplin of Casper, WY; and brothers, Tommy Powers of Ohio, Jerry Powers of Louisville, and Hazel Powers of Morganfield.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Carter officiating followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
