Norma Joyce Hagan, 84, of Owensboro, was surrounded by her family when she went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2024, at the Carmel Home. Norma was born in Owensboro on July 27, 1940, to the late Maxwell and Mary Wathen Powers.
Norma's deep devotion to her Catholic faith was evident through her long-time membership at St. Martin Parish alongside her husband. Together, they actively engaged in parish life, assisting with picnics, fish fries, and various community events. Later in life, they became members of Immaculate Parish, continuing their commitment to their faith and community. She also dedicated many years working at the Pastoral Center until her retirement. Early in life, she volunteered as a candy striper at the Carmel Home, embodying her lifelong commitment to helping others.
An exceptional seamstress, Norma worked at Newman's Tuxedo. She showcased her remarkable skills by crafting prom dresses for her daughter, altering suits and tailoring shirts for her sons, and lovingly creating Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren.
Norma shared a passion for cooking with her husband, and together, they delighted in preparing meals for their family. Renowned for her delicious desserts, she made Sunday family meals a cherished tradition. Holidays were especially dear to her heart; she loved cooking and decorating, particularly during Easter when she created beloved egg piñatas. These occasions were treasured times, as she valued every moment spent with her family.
One of Norma's joys was playing Bunco with a close-knit group of friends for over 56 years, sharing camaraderie and laughter that reflected her love of friendship.
Her children were the center of her world, and she remained deeply involved in their lives and activities. This profound love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would light up when speaking about them, always eager to share photos and stories. She cherished every cuddle with her grandbabies.
Norma will be fondly remembered for her unwavering faith, devotion to family, generosity, and the joy and warmth she brought to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James “Skeeter” Hagan, and brother James R. Powers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Lisa Hagan, Michael (Susan) Hagan, and James Ricky (Carla) Hagan; grandchildren, Magan (Eric) Lott, Kimberly Hagan, Melissa (John) Neal, Travis (Haley) Hagan, Chelsea (Stefan) Swift, Maddie (Bailey) Roberts, and Abby (Logan) Elder; great-grandchildren, Kayson, Bryleigh and Emma, Kenzie, Sebastian "Bash," Parker, Shelby, Lincoln, Hudson, Kamden, Margaret, Griffin, and more on the way; sister, Shelia (Mike) Fulton; sister-in-law, Ruby Powers, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The Mass for Norma Joyce Hagan will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at The Parish of the Immaculate. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with Prayers at 6:00 pm. Visitation Wednesday will be from 9:00 am until the start of Mass at the church.
