Nicholas Joseph Bumm

Nicholas J. Bumm, Sr., 86, of Rome, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Stanley on December 6, 1922, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Wink Bumm; was retired from Fleischmann's Distillery; and was a member of St Martin Catholic Church. Mr. Bumm enjoyed jigsaw puzzles; playing cards; watching sports; tending his vegetable garden; and spending time with his family. He was a Kentucky Colonel, was an honorary lifetime member of the Knight's of Columbus, Father Conner Council 6101; and was a Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Bumm and Bob Bumm.

Mr. Bumm is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Crisp Bumm; sons, Nicholas ( and Janine) Bumm, Jr. of Owensboro and Jeff Bumm of Hawesville; daughters, Bonnie (and Steve) Bittel of Owensboro and Cynthia (and Ralph) Rivera of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Martin (and Mary Ruth) Bumm and Leslie (and Nancy) Bumm of Owensboro; sisters, Betty Booker and Dorothy Ward of Philpot, Helen Bumm and Martha (and Tom) Payne of Owensboro, and Martina (and Pete) Vecchio of Bradenton, FL; and a sister-in-law, Betty Bumm of Owensboro.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at St Martin Catholic Church with Father Pete Hughes officiating followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009 and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
