Nellie L. Morris

Nellie Lanham Young Morris, 86, of Owensboro was called home by Jesus on Monday, March 2, 2026, at her residence with her family by her side. She was under the tender care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Daviess County native was born August 27, 1939, and raised by Gracie and Oliver Young. She was the precious mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and the rock of the family. Nellie was married for 57 years to Raymond Morris, whom she affectionately called her Teddy Bear until he passed in 2002. She loved gospel music and going to church at Nickle Ridge where she was a member. Nellie really enjoyed playing tricks on her grandkids during the holidays. Nellie was a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn and Hillcrest Nursing Home from which she retired in 1994. After that, she enjoyed babysitting for family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was also preceded in death by a son, Wayne Morris; a daughter, Lucille Underwood; grandchildren, Kim Morris, Stephanie Anderson, Billy and Charity Faith; brothers, Buddy and wife Wanda and Delbert Young; sisters, Ruth Boling and Linda Evans.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Timmy Morris, Tom Morris (Sherri), and Sheila Goble (Joey) all of Owensboro; six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandkids; siblings, Oliver “Junior” Young (Diane), David Young, and Janice Young; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 7 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
