Nelda Darrell

Nelda Peeples Darrell, 79, of Owensboro passed away August 27, 2014 at Owensboro Health Hospital in Owensboro, KY. She was born on November 24, 1934 in Jacksonville, TX, to the late Cecil and Gladys Peeples. She was a graduate of Lon Morris College, Hendrix College (B.A.), and Hardin- Simmons University (M.A). Mrs. Darrell taught for thirty years at New Parrish Elementary School in the Owensboro Public Schools, and was a writing instructor at the Owensboro Community & Technical College. She was also a long time and very active member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Nelda enjoyed acting and participated in numerous Theater Workshop of Owensboro productions. She also enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid reader, and loved to spend time with her family.
Survivors include Bob Darrell, of Owensboro, her sister Geraldine Weddle, children Bobby Darrell, of Newport News, VA, Barton Darrell, of Owensboro, Bracken Darrell of Palo Alto, CA, Shelley Darrell Chatfield of Lexington, and grandchildren Drew Darrell, Aaron Darrell, Anderson Darrell, Blair Darrell, Conner Darrell, Lloyd Chatfield III, Jake Chatfield, and Lauren Chatfield.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd, at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church in Owensboro. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church .
