Nancy May Melvin

February 4, 1923 — July 27, 2017

Nancy Snow Melvin, 94, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017. She was born February 4, 1923 in Burkesville, KY to the late John Q. and May James Snow. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Leroy Melvin on January 25, 2015, a son, James Scott Melvin in 1998, a brother, Robert James Snow, and a daughter-in-law, Karen Collins Melvin.
Nancy had fond memories growing up in Richmond Kentucky. She served our country as a W A V E during WWII. After military service she returned to Richmond and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University where she received her bachelors and masters degrees. She worked for twenty years for the Kentucky Department of Social Services. During retirement she and her husband moved to Owensboro.
Nancy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the General Evan Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Women's Club of Owensboro. She was an avid bridge player and was a talented cook providing many wonderful meals for her family. Nancy was a very kind and compassionate person and was dearly loved by her family and friends.
Surviving are a son, Dr. W. Lee Melvin and wife Linnea of Chesapeake, VA, a daughter, Nancy Melvin Harrison and husband Dr. William C. Harrison of Owensboro, seven grandchildren, Amy (Charles) Anderson, James(Lauren) Melvin, Kathryn Melvin, Nancy Melvin, Laura Harrison and fiancé, Matt Haga, Jessica (Evan) Emery, and Courtney(Joshua) Magdici, two great grandchildren, Grant and Baylee Anderson, and a niece, Tevis James.
On Saturday August 5 visitation will begin at noon, followed by her funeral service at 3:00 p.m. both held at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Christine Coy Fohr officiating. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
