Nancy Belle Evans Gribbin, 75, of Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at her home. She was born May 22, 1934 and raised in Bethlehem, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Paul S. and Mary Belle Black Evans. She was a member of Christ Community Church and in 1955 married and moved to the Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska where she worked as a civilian buyer for the base PX and for all of Alaska including the outer islands and the Volusian Islands. She returned to the states to Louisville in 1960. That year, she went to work for Ransdell Surgical Sales as a controller and was there until the birth of her second child. She then worked from home for six years being a mother and bookkeeper for the Independent Bekins Van Lines operations. Later in 1970 Nancy and her husband Willard moved to Owensboro where they bought and operated Schrecker Moving and Storage and Owensboro Van and Storage, and also later bought Rivertown Moving and Storage. In 1993, they co-founded and owned K. B. Kids Zone here in Owensboro where she enjoyed being surrogate "Grandmother" to many children over the next 16 years.
She was also a member of Welcome Wagon of Owensboro and was a Sunday School teacher and Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid bowler and bowled on the G.E. league and had several "perfect 300" games. She loved traveling and had visited and vacationed in all 50 states plus Mexico and Canada. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening and collecting quilts, Hadley Pottery, and depression glass. She was a member of the Ayer's Friday Night Dinner Club and the Deloris lunch group. After retiring, she and her husband started "Toys for Big Boys" which specialized in customizing Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Dewayne Gribbin on June 2, 2009, and three sisters, Peggy McWhorter of Taylorsville, Gayle Evans of Drennon Springs, and Joyce Marcum of Louisville.
Surviving are her daughters, Michelle Wallace-Whitlow and husband Brad of Owensboro and Darla and husband Rev. Mark Foglio of Lexington, two granddaughters, Krystal Henning and husband Chris and Brittany Robbins, and a great grandson Aidan Henning, all of Owensboro, six brothers and sisters, Paul L. Evans of Georgetown, Mary A. Figg and Wayne Evans, both of Shelbyville, Eunice Montfort of Frankfort, Jimmie Evans of Mt. Eden, and Kenneth Evans of Turners Station.
Services will be 12 Noon Saturday, July 25, at the Christ Community Church at 1220 Center Street. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
