Nancy Waltrip Brackett

Nancy Waltrip Brackett, 89, of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in McClean County, Kentucky to the late Tom and Commie Waltrip.

Nancy and her husband Edwin owned and operated Brackett Rest Home and later, Brackett Vault Company which is now operated by their grandson, John. She attended Deliverance Christian Center but was formerly a longtime member of Little Flock Holiness Church.

Nancy was an energetic and hardworking lady. In addition to being an important part of the family businesses, she enjoyed woodworking and sold much of her work along with crafts and dolls. She was passionate about flowers of many varieties and, while in their eighties, she and her husband built a nice gazebo in the middle of her huge flower garden. Nancy also turned her cake decorating hobby into a small business. During her retirement years many customers at the Country Inn restaurant enjoyed the tasty bread and rolls she would make early each day before they arrived. She loved spending time with family and will be missed by many.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Luther Brackett; a son, Carl Edwin Brackett in 2008; sisters, Bessie Knight and Lena Mae Crabtree; a great great grandson, Kaleb Kost in 2014; and a son-in-law, Harold Philpott in 2014.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Philpott of Owensboro and Tena Humphrey (Carl) of Livermore; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Belcher (Kenneth); a brother, Carlin Waltrip (Nancy), both of Owensboro; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Brackett Strange of Calhoun.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, January 29 at Deliverance Christian Center. Bro. Mike Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday after 10 AM at the church.
