Nancy Mercer Barnhart

Nancy Mercer Barnhart, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Daviess County to the late Walter R. and Cora Lee Haley Mercer.

Nancy worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Several of those years were spent working alongside her husband at Porter’s Auto Supply, where he served as manager. She also kept books for a chiropractor and the American Cancer Society. As a young lady she worked in the office of the Owensboro Police Department.

Mrs. Barnhart was a longtime member of Buena Vista Baptist Church. She was an enthusiastic sports fan who especially enjoyed tennis and was an avid U.K. Fan- often enjoying those games with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Michael "Mike" W. Barnhart in 2012; sisters, Lou Coombs and Ruth Smith; and brothers, J.L. and Casey Mercer.

Mrs. Barnhart is survived by three children; Julie (Jeff) Beyke of Crestwood, KY, Michael "Scott" (Tara) Barnhart of Mandeville, LA and Christopher (Felicia) Barnhart of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren, Andrew (Kayla) Beyke, Melanie (Daniel) Moore, Taylor, Alexis, Haley and Ian Barnhart; six great-grandchildren, Levi, Leighton, Layna and Lynley Moore, Joey Layne Beyke and Andrew Michael Beyke, Jr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM, Thursday, October 2nd at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Utica Cemetery.
