Nancy Kay Atherton

Nancy Kay Atherton, 74, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

On October 2, 1948 a towheaded girl was born to William Elmore and Margaret Hazel Taylor. This sweet soul evolved into coltish and erudite school-girl who then became a fiery beauty that captured the heart of a Utica, Kentucky farm boy named Darrell Atherton. They eventually married, starting a life and family together.

Nancy had worked as the manager for PicWay Shoes and later retired from Family Dollar. She was a member of Bridgepointe Church for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-seven years, Darrell Atherton in 2006; a sister, Linda James; niece, Holly James; and a nephew, Patrick James.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer “Jen” Atherton; many cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
