Myrtle Potts Tinius, 100, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016. She was born in Masonville on November 6, 1915 to the late George and Ella Hazelrigg Potts. Mrs. Tinius retired after thirty years of teaching in the Daviess County school system, first grade being her favorite. Up until her death, she was the oldest living retired teacher from the DCPS. Mrs. Tinius loved to cook, arrange flowers, sew, knit, and crotchet.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, William Harold Tinius, in 2003 and by her siblings, George William "Bill", Ann Mitchell, Kenneth, Harold Dean, and Wendell Potts.
She is survived by her children, Larry Tinius and his wife, Meg, of Philpot and Cheryle Stephens of Philpot; her brother Robert Potts and his wife Pat of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Michael Swope (Crystal), Brian Tinius (Ashley), Jeff Tinius (Jen), Stacey Stefanopolous (Nick), Kristie McCarty (Charles), Shana Johnson (Matt); ten great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Bob Farmer officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 and Saturday from 9:00 until time of service. Private interment will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
