Morris Elton Dawson

April 12, 1927 — August 24, 2007

Morris Elton Dawson, 80, of 8959 Highway 231, Utica, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at his home. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late John M. and Nellie Easton Dawson, he served in the merchant marine and the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, enrolling at Western Kentucky after the war where he received a degree in agriculture. Following graduation, he worked for the Pet Milk Company in Tennessee before returning to Owensboro to join what was then the Green River REA. He began and managed the appliance sales store for the REA and purchased it from them in 1961, owning operating what is now Green River Appliance until his retirement. A member and deacon of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, Mr. Dawson was an active outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lillian Morgan Dawson; his daughters, Marnell Chambers and her husband Ray and Cheryl Burton and her husband Grant, all of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Paul Chambers and his wife Jamie of Louisville, Dr. Elton Chambers and his wife Montica of Charleston, SC, Sally Chambers of Owensboro, Katie Burton Dodson and her husband Sgt. Kevin Dodson of Colorado Springs, and PFC Matthew Burton of Ft. Lewis, Washington, currently serving in Iraq; his great-grandchild, Dawson Chambers; and his brother, Dr. Royce Dawson and his wife Lucy, of Owensboro.

Services, officiated by the Rev. Allen Shouse, are 10 A.M. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. Monday and after 8:30 A.M., Tuesday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Gideons International, PO Box 1133, Owensboro, KY 42302
