Morbia Catherine "Cathy" Ward Coons

Morbia Catherine “Cathy” Ward Coons, 76, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2024, while at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was born August 26, 1947, in Owensboro, to the late Daniel and Morbia Stewart Ward. Cathy loved her family deeply, and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at family dinners. She retired from Aleris in 2002, where she worked for 26 years. Cathy loved being outdoors, enjoying the sunshine, fishing, landscaping, and flowers. She also had a lifelong passion for all animals, especially her dog, Charlie. 

Cathy is survived by her husband of 47 years, who loved her from the first moment he laid eyes on her, Ernest Coons Jr.; her children, John Michael Bell, Kimberly Dawn (Jim) Heep, and Ernest Truett Coons III; seven grandchildren, Megan Foster, Michael Bell, Jordan Bell, Keeley Robertson, Skyler Heep, Houston Coons, and Eliana Coons; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra (Bill) Richards. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Coons will be held at noon Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Brother Paul Hampton officiating. Burial to follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m., and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
