Milton Shively Wimsatt, 78, of Stanley, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on November 2, 1935 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Oldham Lee and Phyllis Shively Wimsatt. He was retired from farming and was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church. While attending Owensboro Catholic High School, he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Joan. Milton owned and raced thoroughbred horses over the years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Connor Council #6101 and the St. Peter Men's Club. He also had served in the U. S. Army Reserves for a number of years. Milton loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed a good practical joke. He also was preceded in death by a grandson Cpl. Christopher Wimsatt (who served two tours in Iraq) on February 16, 2008 and a sister, Margaret "Doodlebug" Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Mehlbauer Wimsatt, four sons, Bryan Wimsatt, Michael (Cathy) Wimsatt, Joey (Felicia) Wimsatt, and David (Tammy) Wimsatt, all of Owensboro, three daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Flaherty, Julie (Ronnie) Mattingly, and Joni Flaherty, all of Owensboro, 16 grandchildren, Jason Terry and Crystal Wimsatt, Luke Cecil and Hunter Flaherty, Jack Wimsatt, Jordan Boswell, and Megan Wimsatt, Ashley Marsh and Sarah Wimsatt, Lauren Keller, Nolan Wimsatt, and Aaron Wimsatt, Madison and Morgan Mattingly, Madeline and Ben Flaherty, four great grandchildren, Samson Marsh, John Edward Keller, Jaycie Howard, and Kavin Main, and two sisters, Jane Mischel of Florida and Faye Booth of Owensboro.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 25, at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 5:00 P.M. and from 9:00-10:15 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
