Milner Shannon Brown

Milner Shannon Brown, 79, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born September 12, 1925 in Hancock County, Mr. Brown was the son of the late John E. and Cova Young Brown. He was a member of the Wing Avenue Baptist Church and was a member of United Steel Workers Local Union 4959 and was retired from Green River Steel where he worked for 33 years. Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy in the South Pacific as a gunners mate aboard the USS Tennessee. He earned the Silver Star and several campaign medals and ribbons. Mr. Brown was a life-long fan of UK basketball, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, Atlanta Braves baseball, country music, and watching Andy Griffith.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Richards Brown; two sons, Richard Darrell Brown and Gary S. Brown both of Owensboro; two brothers and sister-in-law; Thomas and Mary Carmen Brown of Central City and Russell and Thelma Brown of Owensboro; a grandson, Ricky Brown of Owensboro; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Brown of Owensboro.

Funeral services are 2:30 P.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Friday and after 12:30 P.M. on Saturday.
