Miles H. Simmons, 84, of Philpot, died February 4, 2016 under the care of Signature Healthcare Hillcrest. Mr. Simmons was born November 22, 1931 in Daviess County to the late Wilford M. and Sarah Corine Crask Simmons. He retired from Whirlpool after 26 years as a tig welder. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Daviess County Lions Club, the National Guard, and the founder of the coffee group that met at Norman McDonald's in Philpot. Mr. Simmons loved fishing and playing cards but most of all, he loved his family and going to the Grand Ole Opry with wife.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Madgie Kirkendoll Simmons; sisters, Margaret Russell, Thelma Mattingly, and Peggy Wilhite.
Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Simmons of Owensboro, Karen Camp and husband, Paul of Philpot; son, Ken Simmons and wife Darlene of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Gilbert Simmons of Evansville, Dennis Simmons of Amarillo, Texas; sisters, Carrie Midkiff of Anniston, Alabama, Mary Rose Carlisle of Owensboro; grandchildren, Kandie McDaniel, Leslie Simmons, Julie Smith, Kerry Heare, Jill Lines, Jordan Camp, Landon Camp, Taylor Camp; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special recognition to his friend, Cebert Carden for his friendship and companionship and special thanks to the staff at Hillcrest for their kind and loving care of their dad.
The service will be Saturday, February 6 at 12:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Craig Bratcher officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 and from 9:00 AM Saturday. Interment to follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
