Mildred Smeathers Walker, 85, of 1033 Hermitage Dr., Owensboro, died, Thursday, June 5, 2003 at her home. The Daviess County native was a homemaker and member of the Third Baptist Church. She was a member of the All For Christ Sunday School Class, the D.A.R., and the Owensboro Women's Club. She was a direct descendant of Bill Smeathers and Rev. Peter Fullenwider founding fathers of Owensboro, pioneers and Indian fighters.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lee Roy Walker; two sons, John and Becky Walker of Owensboro, and Dr. James and Nancy Walker of Mobile, AL; a daughter Phyllis and Robert Sutherland of Athens, GA; six grandchildren, Lee Anne Glover of Cumming, GA, Jill Ryan of Winder, GA, Natalie Walker and Eden Walker of Mobile, AL, Laura Walker of Owensboro, and Matthew Walker of Starkeville, MS; and two great-grandchildren, Lauryn Glover of Cumming, GA, and Peyton Ryan of Winder, GA.
Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Glenn Funeral Home with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Glenn Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday and after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Third Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice.
