Mildred Christine Daugherty Cook, 87, of Owensboro, was called home on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on February 3, 1924 in McLean Co., Ky., the daughter of the late John and Nellie Jennings Daugherty. She had worked at General Electric Co. from 1947-1957, had run a small grocery store on Crabtree Ave., and had retired from the former Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the dietary department. Mildred received her G. E. D. on April 30, 1982 at the age of 58 and was very proud of that. She was a member of the Active Daycare and Salvation Army Women's Wednesday Night League. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cook in 1987, an infant son, Bryan Keith Cook in 1965, and brothers, Winfred Daughtery in 1926, Otho in 1928, John Darrell in 1934, and Jessie in 2003.
Surviving are her children, Kathie (Mike) King, and Kenneth Cook (Pat) of Owensboro, Fonda (Larry) Mattingly of Marion, Ky., Dwight (Becky) Cook of Virginia, Judy Pamperin-Rasior (Tom) of Owensboro, and Charles W. (Linda) Cook of Bowling Green, grandchildren, Michael (Jaime) King, Keith King, and Siretha King, Mitchell (Lucy) Mattingly, and Matthew Mattingly, all of Owensboro, Laura (Mark) Brandon and Mary Mattingly of Marion, Christina Cook of Virginia, David and Charles Cook of Bowling Green, Don Atherton, Jr. of Tennessee, and Chance (Kris) Atherton of Owensboro, great grandchildren, Shayla and Dyllon Waterbury, Charles and Sara King, Emily and Alexis Mattingly, Elaina, Izak, Anika Atherton, and Dallas Davis, all of Owensboro, and Regan Cook of Bowling Green, a brother, Emmett (Claudette) Daugherty of Owensboro, and sisters, Tressa (Pat) St Amour of Michigan, Margaret Jones of Arizona, and Delilah Martin of Owensboro.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 24, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
