Mihaly Mike Bodnar, 73, of Owensboro, KY, died in his home at the Roosevelt House on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. He was born April 18, 1933 to the late Sandor and Marta Papp Bodnar in Budapest, Hungary, where he fought as a Freedom Fighter in the 1956 revolution. He came to Owensboro as a political refugee in 1957 and became a US Citizen in 1975. Mihaly was also known as Pops, at Colonial Baking Company in Owensboro, where he retired in 1995, after 38 years of service. He was of the Greek Catholic faith.
Survivors include his daughters, Mikah and Gail Bodnar, both of Owensboro; his sons, Steven Bodnar of New Albany, IN, Lewis Bodnar and his wife, Kayla of Owensboro and Petty Officer 2nd Class Jesse Bodnar USN and his wife, Kumiko of Pearl City, Hawaii; seven grandchildren, Cody Lindsey, Seth, Micheal, Kaycie and Keira Bodnar, all of Owensboro, Katie and Jacob Bodnar of Pearl City, Hawaii; one brother, Istvan Bodnar of Ontario, Canada; and his ex-wife, Patricia Bodnar of Owensboro.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 10:00 AM Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW, Post 696, 311 West Veterans Blvd., Owensboro, KY 42301.
