Michael Lee Smith, 73, of Pleasant Ridge passed away Thursday, December 8 at his home with his family present. Mr. Smith was born August 16, 1943 in Daviess County to the late Jean B. Smith and Mary Rose Collignon Smith. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1961 and soon joined the Army Reserves and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1983 from which he retired as a Supply Specialist in 2003 after serving for thirty-nine years. Mike, who acquired the nickname "Old Goat", loved NASCAR and UK Basketball. He grew up farming and still found being on the tractor a most enjoyable task. Mike was known as a "garage tinkerer" and would attempt to fix or build almost anything, most of the time successfully.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Smith; sister in law, Jane Smith; brother in law, J.R. Bryant.
Survivors include his loving wife of 12 years, Rosemary Smith of Utica; son, Michael Shane Smith of Kissimmee, Florida; daughters, Nicole Mudd and husband Michael of Knottsville and Katie Smith Thompson and husband Lance of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Kurtis Galloway, Ian and Lilly Mudd and Cora Thompson; brothers, Norbert "Sonny" Smith and wife Helen Rose and Dennis Smith; sister, Annette Smith Bryant; sister in law, Barbara Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 14 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Ken Mikulcik officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 with prayers at 7:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
