Michael Dean Overton, 80, of Smiths Grove, formerly of Owensboro passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at his home while under the care of Hospice of Southern Kentucky. He was born November 26, 1943 in Daviess County to the late John C. and Monette Fleming Overton.
Mike, originally from Curdsville, graduated from Daviess County High School and then served in the U. S. Army. He had a successful career in sales and then retired to help run the family-owned bridal store, Elizabeth’s Weddings. Family was his #1 priority and he loved unconditionally. He could fix anything and would help anyone, anytime.
Mike loved to grill and was a member of the St. Pius X cooking team for many years. He was a good example for the community as a Boy Scout leader, Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Mike enjoyed going to Nascar races with the family and driving across the country in an RV appreciating the U. S. landmarks. His lifelong dream was to buy a farm, which he was able to fulfill four years ago in Smiths Grove.
Mike’s loving spirit is carried on by his wife, Maria Bruckner Overton; his daughter, Kathleen Overton (Oscar Bates); his son, Michael Overton; sister, Elizabeth Schroeder (Wayne) of Owensboro; brother, Eddie Overton (Eyvonne) of Lexington; grandsons, Courty Alton and Caden Bates; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, September 25, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942 or to Tunnels To Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, N. Y. 10306. Messages and condolences to the family can be shared at www.glenncares.com.
