Michael William Lewis, 98, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Cloverport, passed away on November 28, 2023 in Denver. He was born in Cloverport on November 22, 1925, the fourth of eleven children, to the late Raphael and Alice Hagman Lewis. He started school at St. Rose of Lima Grade School in Cloverport. Around the 3rd grade, the family moved to Owensboro where he continued school at St. Joseph’s Grade School, St. Mary’s High School, and later St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana.
Mike trained as an electrician complementing the family’s home building business. In 1955, Mike, two sisters, and a cousin loaded into Mike’s 1949 Oldsmobile and headed West, settling in Denver. The group joined the St. Thomas University Club and the Cathedral Young People’s Club where they formed many lasting friendships. He opened his own business, Lewis Electric serving the Denver area. Mike was also preceded in death by brothers, James and Joseph (Frances), and sisters, Mary Catherine Lewis, Teresa Morgan, Barbara (Bob) Lundstrom, and Alice Mae Lewis.
Mike was known for his steadfast care of family, friends, and acquaintances. His quiet demeanor reflected his deep and abiding faith. He was a parishioner at Risen Christ Catholic Church. He had a true interest in all those he knew and met and had a masterful love of gardening. He was always ready to lend a hand and expertise to anyone who asked.
Mike was survived by his sisters, Frances (Pappy) Cecil, Jean (John) Gulding, and Ann Lewis; ; brother, John (Nancy) Lewis; and a sister-in-law, Frances Lewis.
Visitation and prayers were held in Denver on December 9, at the Horan and McConaty Funeral Service and Crematory.
Services in Cloverport will be 11 AM Saturday, January 13, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with burial following in Calvary Cemetery in Cloverport. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 11 AM Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Mike will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives and friends.
