Michael J. Butler

Michael J. Butler, 77, of Utica passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born May 19, 1947, to the late Reathel Butler and Lillian Beverly Adelmann Butler. Michael (or Mike to some) graduated from Daviess County High School, class of 1965. After attending Murray State University for several years, Michael became a fire fighter with the Owensboro Fire Department. He served our community for almost 21 years before retirement. Always the entrepreneur, Mike worked in Collections and a loading service before opening Z’s restaurant in the Cigar Factory Mall. He also owned a popular bar in Owensboro called The Boiler Room as well as the founder and owner of River City Industrial Services. Mike enjoyed spending time on his farm in Warren County, playing golf, going to the horse races, and watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and NASCAR. 

 In addition to his parents, Mike also was preceded in death by his sister, Judith L. Humphrey. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of ten years, Terri Roberts Butler; son, Jason Butler (Lisa); stepdaughter, April Kemplin (Jeremy); three grandchildren, McKensey Ogletree, Dalton Ogletree, and Laina Butler; step-grandchildren, Gracie Kemplin and Will Kemplin; sister, Jacquline Smith; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

 The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 6 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm and Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.
