Michael Wharton Barnhart

Michael "Mike" W. Barnhart, age 72, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He was born in January 3, 1940 in Creede, Colorado to the late Eldred and Leola Barnhart.

Aside from his loving parents Michael is preceded in death by two siblings; Nora Ziegenbein and Lanny Barnhart.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Nancy Mercer Barnhart. He also leaves behind three loving children; Julie (Jeff) Beyke of Crestwood, KY, Michael "Scott" ( Tara) Barnhart of Mandeville, LA and Christopher ( Felicia) Barnhart of Colorado Springs, CO. Two siblings; Bill ( Cindy) Barnhart of Haines City, FL and Joyce Stocker of Haines City, FL. Six grandchildren; Andrew Beyke, Melanie (Daniel) Moore who are expecting Michael's first great grandchild , Taylor and Alexis Barnhart, Haley and Ian Barnhart. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Family took priority over everything else in Michael's life.
Michael provided for his family by working as a manager for Porters Auto Supply in Hartford, KY. When not spending time with his family Michael enjoyed coaching youth athletics and was the president of the Owensboro Soft Ball League as well as the Owensboro Youth Hockey Association. He also coached minor league baseball in Sorgho and coached 13 year olds in a Babe Ruth baseball league. Michael was a Kentucky Colonel for many years. He had an intensely witty sense of humor, even up till the end of his life Michael always knew how to lighten up the mood with a good joke. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 12:00PM in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment to follow at Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 20th from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home and also after 11:00PM on Tuesday.
