Mertie Catherine Poole Starks

November 10, 1922 — February 25, 2015

Mertie Catherine (Poole) Starks , 92, of Henderson, KY died Wednesday, February 25,2015 at Red Banks Nursing Home in Henderson. She was born in Richland, KY to the late Elijah and Maudie Orene Poole.

She professed her faith in Christ in 1935 at the Richland Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member for twenty-two years. She then transferred her membership to Owensboro Baptist churches. Mertie Catherine had worked at General Electric and as a clerk in the sheriff's office. During World War II, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" on the P-47 Thunderbolt at the old Servel plant in Evansville. Mertie Catherine was a music fan, specifically of Elvis Presley. She also collected all sorts of elephants. Mertie Catherine will be fondly remembered by many.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Strombland and a granddaughter, Teresa Lynn Dorris.

Mertie Catherine is survived by her sons, Larry Russell Dorris of Owensboro, Robert Vince Starks (Janet) of Louisville and William Vance Starks (Kim) of Henderson; grandchildren, Deborah Heady, Jordan, Matthew, Vince and Jeff Starks; and great grandchildren, Phillip Luallen, Embry Luallen and Nate Heady.

The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 12 until 2 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
