Merici Benita Millay, 95, of Owensboro, went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Sunday October 16, 2016. She was born April 28, 1921 to the late Martin Spalding Mattingly and Sarah Gertrude Bowlds. Merici was a Homemaker. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral for over 60 years and sang in the choir for 20 of those years. Merici enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bernard Millay in 1980; son, Dennis Millay in 2007; as well as all of her siblings, Joseph Edward, Thomas Leo, Martin Spalding, Vincent Eugene, Austin Eugene, Mary Theresa McBride, Mary Edwina Loyd, Sr. Merici Mattingly, Geraldine Staples, Mary Margaret Payne, Sr. Martin Gertrude and infant sibling, Mary Theresa Mattingly.
Survivors include her children, James Larry (Shirley) Millay, Mary Joan Bartlett, Elizabeth Carol (Steve) Crisp, Sharon Ritch, Joseph Allen Millay, all of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be 12:05 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at St. Stephens Cathedral. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with prayers beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
