Melissa Belle Baber, age 29, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on February 1, 2015, at her home following an illness and surgery. Melissa brought special care, laughter, and life to everyone she knew. She will be long and fondly appreciated, missed, and remembered. Her enduring legacy will be the positive impact she had on the lives of many.
Melissa was an unusually compassionate, empathetic person. She uniquely understood the needs of others and had a very special gift for finding and nurturing the best in all, especially children. She worked with Special Education students at Sutton Elementary School for seven years and was currently in her first year in the same role at Foust Elementary School. Melissa had endless love and patience for her students. She cherished her friends and dogs and enjoyed spending time with her family and frequent beach vacations.
Melissa was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Winnie Bell Atherton, and her paternal grandfather, Gilbert Albert Baber, both of Owensboro.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Sherry and Gilbert J. Baber; her brother, Matthew; her maternal grandfather, B.T. Atherton; her paternal grandmother, Evelyn Baber; and her beloved best and constant friend, her blonde Lab, Isabel, each of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4th, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
