Melba Jean Taylor, 88, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at his home. He was born April 18, 1921, to the late Gon D. and Winnie Ralph Taylor in Daviess County. He retired from the State Hwy Department after 28 years of service. He was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church, an Veteran of WW II, where he was in the 406th Infantry Division M-1, Rifleman marksman, he was in the One Battle Star Germany Campaign, and was wounded in action, and received the Purple Heart in 1942. He was also a 60 year member of the Joe Ellis Masonic Lodge # 473.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Taylor on December 20, 2000, a brother, Diamon Taylor, his sisters, Pearl McKinley and Wilma Taylor, and a step-granddaughter, Paula Nolan.
Survivors include his sons, Shirley Taylor and his wife, Chris of Utica, Jerry Taylor and his wife, Sharon of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Cheryl Stacy Taylor Payne, Keith Taylor, Marty Taylor, Holly Taylor Magan-Stewart, and a step-grandchild, Bobby Cook; nine great-grandchildren, Chelsey Payne, Ryan Taylor, Jordan Payne, Kirsten Taylor, Shelby Magan, Lindsey Magan, Brittany McIntosh, Niki Taylor and Luke Lindsey.
Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday and after 10:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt.
