Maurine Woodson Grant

Maurine Woodson Everley Grant, 92, of Fern Terra, Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at her home. She was born on January 8, 1919 in Ohio Co., Ky. to the late Arthur Bryan and Margaret Barnard Everley. She was a graduate of Rockport (Ky.) High School in 1936 and of Western Kentucky University in 1941. Maurine was retired from teaching after 31 years, three years in one-room schools in Ohio County and the remaining 28 years in Louisville and Jefferson County schools. She and her family attended Bethany United Methodist Church for 45 years and was active in her church and taught Adult Sunday School classes. She became a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church after moving to Owensboro. She resided in Louisville for 60 years before moving to Owensboro. Maurine was a member of the Homemakers Club and her retirement activities included making quilts, crocheting, craft classes, and reading. Her greatest pride and joy was her five children that all achieved a college degree. She was married to Fred T. Grant in June of 1941, celebrated 66 years of marriage before he passed away in November of 2007. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell Truman Everley.

Surviving are her children, Ronnie Dean Grant and wife Pat of Beaver Dam, Beverley Ann Grant McEnroe of Owensboro, Donna Margaret Grant of Owensboro, Fred Kenneth "Kenny" Grant of Bowling Green, and Kevin Woodson Grant and wife Jeri of Louisville, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty Jean Schroerlucke and husband Rev. Gilbert of Louisville and Wanda Werncke of Greenville, In., and a brother, Aubrey Baun Everley and wife Loucinda of Bowling Green.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 26 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
