Mattie L. York Sutherlin, 90, of Owensboro passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at the St. Thomas Hospice in Nashville. Born May 12, 1918 in Ohio County, she was the daughter of the late Mape and Flora Jolly York; owned and operated Sutherlins Grocery; and was currently a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and the Love Sunday School Class and was a long time member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Sutherlin taught Sunday school for many years at both her churches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hugh Jack Sutherlin in 1982 and a brother, Bill York in 2003.
Survivors include a daughter Patsy (and Eldon) Boone of Nashville; a son, Donnie (and Deborah) Sutherlin of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, David Boone, Mark (and Jill) Boone, and Samantha (and Ken) Redmon; one great-grandchild, Tanner Redmon; a brother, Ray (and Opal) York of Owensboro; and a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine York of Owensboro.
Services are 1 P.M. Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Forrest Jackson and Rev. Michael Blankenship officiating followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Wednesday and after 10 A.M. on Thursday.
