Mary Ida Witter

Mary Ida Witter, 94, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Alston Cunningham.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Ledbetter.

Mary was married to the love of her life, Jack Simpson Witter, for 70 years. Together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion. She was a cherished mother to Linda (Richard) Sarles and Diane (Brendan) Bowen; a proud grandmother to Christopher (Mandi) Sarles, Shawn Sarles (Kyle King), Michael Bowen (Rachel Ulrich), and Daniel Bowen; and a doting great-grandmother to Natalie Bowen, Alyssa Sarles, and Scarlett Sarles.

A member of Settle Memorial Methodist Church, Mary’s life reflected her steadfast faith and love for community. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, a talented Life Master in duplicate bridge, and an enthusiastic reader who treasured playing games with her family. Her quick wit, kindness, and generous spirit left an enduring impression on everyone who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, family, and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.

The funeral service for Mary will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
