Mary Emily Whelan

Maple Mount Sister Mary Emily Whelan, 88, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Saturday, August 26, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 67th year of religious life. She was a native of Howardstown. An educator for 58 years, she was a librarian at Brescia College for 30 years (1959-89), and served as administrative assistant in the Brescia Counseling Center from 1989 until her retirement in 2000. She also taught at St. Charles School, Lebanon, and St. Columba School, Louisville, and at St. Bernard Academy in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, in the chapel at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Tuesday, August 29, at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m. Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
