Mary Jo Van Winkle Burton, 45, of Owensboro passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Owensboro on January 2, 1965, she was a graduate of Owensboro High School and Western Kentucky University; was an industrial hygienist with the State of Kentucky's OSHA Office in Owensboro; and attended First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Burton was a devoted mother, great friend, and had a marvelous sense of humor. She was dedicated to caring for her son and advocating for his needs. She was very active with the Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville and the Ohio County Equestrian Club. Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Jones Van Winkle on February 12, 2010.
She is survived by her son, Jack Henry Burton and his father Matthew Burton; her father, Billy (Marilyn) Van Winkle of Owensboro; a brother, Bill (Susan) Van Winkle of Owensboro; sisters, Kathy (Bruce) Margopoulos of Richmond, VA and Karen (Brent) Nichols of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There is no visitation on Thursday.
