Mary Bernice Uhing

Sister Mary Bernice Uhing, 84, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, Maple Mount, KY, died Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Mount Saint Joseph Motherhouse. She was in her 65th year of religious life; she entered the Ursuline community on August 14, 1936. Sister Mary Bernice was born in Hartington, NE and was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Uhing.

Sister Mary Bernice's ministry included Immaculate Conception School, Earlington, KY; Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville, KY (principal); and Christ the King School, Madisonville, KY. She also taught in Radcliff, Fredericktown, Jefferstown, and Louisville in Kentucky; Waterflow and Grants in New Mexico; and Plattsmouth, NE. In 1982 she returned to the motherhouse to assist in the Archives and in personal/pastoral care in the infirmary.

Sister Mary Bernice grew up on a farm and enjoyed animals. She was a dedicated teacher, an avid reader, and a person who loved helping others.

She is survived by two brothers, Cyril Uhing of Blair, NE and Hubert Uhing of Hartington, NE; and a sister, Julia Leise of Hartington, NE.

Services are 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at the Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, Maple Mount, KY. Burial will be in the Convent Cemetery. Visitation is after 4 P.M., Monday, July 16, 2001 in the Moujnt Saint Joseph Chapel with a wake service at 6:30 P.M. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
