Mary Gertrude Thompson, 91, of the Carmel Home, died there Thursday, July 8, 2010. She was born in Stanley to the late Henry Edward and Annie Thompson. Gertrude was a retired practical nurse who took care of adults patients. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, the Secular Carmelite Order, the Army of Mary and the Legion of Mary.
Gertrude was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Goebel and Charles Leroy Thompson and three sisters, Margaret Lucille Thompson, Mary Ruth Barnett and Mae Veronica ''Mabel'' Shively.
Surviving is a brother and sister in law, John Edward and Florence Thompson of Owensboro, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Immaculate Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Jones officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m., and after 8:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Carmel Home.
