Mary Susan King

Mary Susan King, age 69, died on June 15, 2026. Susan, as she was known to all, was born on September 1, 1956 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Virgil C King Jr & MaryRuth Onstott King.

She was four years old when she learned she was going to be a big sister, but instead of the baby sister she was hoping for, she got twin brothers! She got the little sister she wanted a few years later & loved her brothers fiercely. Susan married the winter of her junior year in high school & was blessed with her daughter, Heather, that summer. She went on to graduate from Owensboro High School the following year, at which point she & Heather joined her husband at Western Kentucky University, where she earned an associates degree in nursing. Susan & her family moved to Lexington, where she supported her husband through law school as an ICU nurse at Central Baptist Hospital. They settled in Dallas where she worked as a nurse in a urologist office. She moved back to Owensboro upon Heather’s high school graduation and spent quality time with the family she had moved away from at such a young age.

Susan loved playing games with Heather, listening to music (Alabama, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffet & Lukas Nelson to name a few), was an avid Dallas Cowboys & Kentucky basketball fan, & enjoyed playing the piano & crocheting. She watched several news shows every day & was a loyal Democrat. She also loved the show Cops.

Susan is survived by her daughter Heather Hatley of Austin, Texas, son-in-law Derek Hatley, granddaughters Bianca & Ava Hatley, sister Kathy Halley of Owensboro, Kentucky, brother Gary King of Troy, Illinois and his husband, Ron Wilson, brother Cary King of Atlanta, Georgia & his son, Samuel, and cousin Tami Neel of Owensboro, Kentucky & her children & grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.  Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

In memory of Susan, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Owensboro Humane Society. She got her beloved cat, Trouble, from them and was forever grateful.

The family wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, the Heartford House & Kathy Halley for taking such loving care of Susan.
