Mary Jo Smith, 80, of Philpot, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky and in the presence of her beloved family. She was born October 29, 1936 in Daviess Co. to the late Joseph and Catherine Tierney Conkright. Mary Jo had worked at the American Tobacco Co. for 20 years and then at W. R. Grace and Daramic until her retirement. She received a Catholic education and faithfully attended Blessed Mother Catholic Church and St. Williams Catholic Church where she was currently a parishoner. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She enjoyed socializing with her friends while aquasizing at the Hines Center. Mary Jo was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Conkright and James Edward Conkright, and a great grandson, Nathaniel Meyering Smith.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Raymond "R.M." Smith, sons, Bobby Smith and wife Connie of Owensboro and Todd Smith and wife Carmen of Houston, TX, her daughter, Rebecca Smith of Philpot, five grandchildren, Christina (Nick) Booth of Atlanta, GA, Stephanie (Benji) Falloway of Lexington, Tiffany (Buster) Ashley of Owensboro, Josh (Shannon) Smith of Bowling Green, and Erin Smith of Houston, 11 great grandchildren, three brothers, Jerry Conkright and Greg (Tonya) Conkright, all of Owensboro, Billy (Ruth) Conkright of Whitesville, and Steve (Stacey) Conkright of Philpot, three sisters, Doris (Jim) Green of Sorgho, Janice (Tom) Strain of Owensboro, and Karen (Steve) Maddox of Maceo, sister-in-law, Wanda Ward, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, at St. Williams Catholic Church with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and from 10:00-12:00 P.M. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
