Mary Rose Shoemaker, 87, of the Carmel Home, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born February 27, 1922 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret Lee Shoemaker; was a retired teacher and medical librarian; and was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. Miss Shoemaker was a Eucharist Adorer at the Carmel Home and a Minister of Praise for the Sick. She was a graduate of Brescia and St Louis Universities and received numerous awards for civic and educational works. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Shoemaker, A.J. Shoemaker, and Hubert Lee Shoemaker , and a sister, Manie Rita Wendling.
She is survived by a sister in law, Mary Ruth Shoemaker; several nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and her Carmel Home family.
Miss Shoemaker donated her body to St Louis University Medical School where she volunteered.
Memorial masses will be offered at St Raphel Chapel at the University of St. Louis Hospital where she often volunteered and at the Carmel Home. Burial will be at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery on the St. Louis University campus.
