Mary Josephine Roberts

Mary Josephine "Tudie" Roberts, 90, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Daviess County, the youngest of nine children. Mrs. Roberts worked at General Electric prior to her marriage to Joseph Carl Roberts in 1946. She then became the picture of the self-reliant farmers wife, raising seven children with days beginning before sunrise and in the early days pumping water, cooking and heating with coal, making clothes for all her children and making their home by doing her own wallpapering with paste she made herself. She worked with whatever she had and made it do. She was a wonderful cook and at the end of the day spent the time she had to herself quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carl Roberts; her parents, Roy W. and Mary Hiteman Terry; a son-in-law Thomas Sherman Aud; a grandson Jonathan Roberts and a granddaughter Gabriella Royalty; and 7 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Aud of Owensboro, Brenda Faye Haynes (John) of Philpot, Janet Marie Schartung (Bernard A.) of Philpot, Nancy Paulette Gafford (Ricky) of Henderson, Bonnie Sue (Barry) Redfern of Utica, Joseph Anthony "Tony" Roberts of Philpot and Richard Dale "Ricky" Roberts (Sherryll) of Elizabethtown; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, with another great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild on the way; and her sister Dorothy Roberts of Knottsville.

The funeral Mass for Mrs. Roberts will be at 12:05 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
