Mary Helen Hartz Riney

Mary Helen Hartz Riney, 80, of Owensboro passed away peacefully in the loving care of her husband, Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Born December 14, 1927 in Owensboro, Mrs. Riney was the daughter of the late Robert and Floella Lanham Hartz; was a devoted wife and mother; and was a member of St Stephen Cathedral. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Poor Souls; loved music and was an alto in the St. Martin choir for many years before moving into Owensboro; and was a wonderful seamstress and made beautiful quilts that she loved to give to family members. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Riney; a granddaughter, Brooke Riney; brothers, Jim Hartz, Bob Hartz, and Don Hartz; and a sister, Lena Mae Hartz.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Hugh Riney; children, Kitty Riney (and Rex Jones) of Louisville, Helen Ann (and Joe) Day and Mary Lou (and John) Ray of Owensboro, Chuck (and Pam) Riney of Charlotte, NC, Rick (and Susan) Riney of Louisville, Ben Riney of Atlanta, GA, Byron (and Jennifer) Riney of Lawrenceburg, KY, and Christine Riney of Murfreesboro, TN; 22 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Hartz, Sr. and Dean (and Mary) Hartz of Owensboro; and sisters, Alberta McCarty of Rome, Millie McCarthy, Shirley (and Allen) Howard, Lena Ruth (and Joe) Aull, and Martha (and Eddie) Payne all of Owensboro.

Services are 12:05 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Stephen Cathedral with Father John Vaughan officiating followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday and from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home where the Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Friday evening.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home, Passionist Nuns, or Masses.
