Mary Edna Riney

Mrs. Mary Edna Riney, 92, of Owensboro, passed away November 15, 2018, at the Carmel Home. Mary was born in Daviess County on October 25, 1926, to the late Henry Ignatious and Mary Vowels Russell. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a charter member and a teacher for many years. Mary was very artistic, she loved to paint and create stained glass, and even learned to do auto body repair on her own to be able to make repairs to her vehicles. She also loved to travel, play cards with friends, ride her bicycle and play golf.

Mary held a very special place in her heart for the Carmel Home, spending many hours there visiting friends before becoming a resident there herself seven years ago.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Thomas Marnell Riney; sisters, Wilma Endicott, Geraldine Gruzard and Stansell Ebelhar; and brothers, Elmo Russell and H.I. Russell Jr.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Ann Petrie and her husband, Gerald, of Indianapolis, IN and Cynthia Rumage and her husband, Michael, of Erlanger, KY; a son, Father Maury Riney of Henderson, KY; granddaughters, Jennifer Robbins and Stacey Fuller; two grandsons, Daniel Petrie and Christopher Rumage; and four great grandchildren.

The funeral Mass for Mary Edna Riney will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Pat Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. with prayers at 5 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
