Mary Margaret Payne

Mary Margaret Payne, 90, of Owensboro, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Professional Care in Hartford. One of eleven children, Margaret was born in Daviess County on July 26, 1923 to the late, Spaulding and Sara Gertrude (Bowlds) Mattingly. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, and had worked at Hodges Tobacco Factory, the Canning Factory and Cadillac Restaurant. Margaret loved to play guitar and sing bluegrass music with her husband, often at area nursing homes, and dance.


Surviving is her husband of 69 years, Charles B. Payne of Owensboro, sons, Randy Payne, Charles R. (Wanda) Payne of Owensboro, daughters, Linda (David) Bailey of Beaver Dam, Judy (Paul) Brown of Owensboro, and Barbara (George) Beard of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, Brandon, Kim, Kevin, Renee Shana, and Andrea, nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Merici Millay of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St. Stephen Cathedral with Fr. Jerry Riney officiating, and burial following in St. William's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and online condolences may be left at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
