Mary Renee Monaghan

Sister Mary Renee Monaghan, 84, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Aug. 30 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 65th year of religious life. She was a native of Central City.
Sister Mary Renee was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to dance, play cards and tell jokes. Her favorite pastime was helping others, especially children with special needs.
Sister Mary Renee was principal at St. Pius Tenth School, Owensboro (1979-81), a teacher at St. Sebastian, Calhoun (1952-53) and Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville (1963-64), and ministered at the Motherhouse as activities director for the retired sisters (1981-82) and on the archives staff (2006-08) before retiring. She ministered for 58 years, working in schools and parishes in Kentucky, Missouri and Indiana.
Survivors include three sisters, Ann Boarman of Boonville, Ind., Sister June Monaghan, SCN, of Nazareth, and Sister Michael Ann Monaghan of Maple Mount; two brothers, Anthony and Donald Monaghan of Central City; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Tuesday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
